#1 The Montessori Method
Are you looking to incorporate Montessori the right way?
Well, whether you are a Montessori parent teaching your child at home full time or part-time after your child comes home from school, you will want this book, for sure!
Here’s what some reviews and descriptions say about the book:
“The Montessori Method” is Dr. Montessori’s most complete account of the history, philosophy, and practice of her teaching method.
It is an essential work for teachers, parents, and all those interested in unleashing human potential for the betterment of our world.
The Montessori Method by Maria Montessori immediately captivated social reformers and educators around the world.
First published in Italian in 1909, The Montessori Method has been translated into twenty languages, including the 1912 English translation.
“There will come a day when the directress herself shall be filled with wonder to see that all the children obey her with gentleness and affection, not only ready, but intent, at a sign from her.
They will look toward her who has made them live, and will hope and desire to receive from her, new life.”
― Maria Montessori
#2 The Absorbent Mind
This is a great book to read if you have a Montessori toddler all the way through age six or so.
It is a great resource to teach Montessori with a deep and thorough understanding on how a child’s mind works.
The main reason that I wanted to give you this book after the method book and before the next one is that it is a foundational book.
Another reason is that it is easier reading and it set up the stage on understanding the depth on how far we have veered away from a child-like mind and how to harness its highest potential.
Here’s what some reviews and descriptions say about the book:
The Absorbent Mind was Maria Montessori’s most in-depth work on her educational theory, based on decades of scientific observation of children.
Her view on children and their absorbent minds was a landmark departure from the educational model at the time.
This book helped start a revolution in education.
Since this book first appeared there have been both cognitive and neurological studies that have confirmed what Maria Montessori knew decades ago.
“Our work is not to teach, but to help the absorbent mind in its work of development.
How marvelous it would be if by our help, if by an intelligent treatment of the child, if by understanding the needs of his physical life and by feeding his intellect, we could prolong the period of functioning of the absorbent mind!”

#3 Dr. Montessori’s Own Handbook
And now for the meat of the matter.
When you do Montessori education from birth to age 6, you NEED this book.
It is more important than you think!
This book gives you real life observations and thoughts that Maria Montessori herself experienced.
This is a great must-read!
Here’s what some reviews and descriptions say about the book:
This is the book that Maria Montesorri wrote in response to requests from thousands of American parents and teachers.
A short, illustrated guide to the use of the Montessori classroom materials, it shows how to set up a “children’s house”—an environment for learning where children can be their own masters, free to learn at their own pace.
Frames for lacing and buttoning, geometrical wooden inserts, sound cylinders, sandpapers letters, colored numerical rods: these are familiar features of any Montesorri classroom, whether in the pioneering days or today.
Dr. Montesorri explains how to use these materials with preschool children to stimulate their powers of observation, recognition, judgment, and classification.
These self-correcting learning tools are the original “teaching machines” for young children. Inherently logical and aesthetically pleasing, they were designed to hone the child’s visual, auditory, and tactile perceptions.
Dr. Montessori stresses that each child approaches the apparatus differently.
The role of the adult, whether teacher or parent, is to let the child experiment, perceive his own mistakes, and run his own risks in learning.
“The functions to be established by the child fall into two groups:
(1) the motor functions by which he is to secure his balance and learn to walk, and to coordinate his movements;
(2) the sensory functions through which, receiving sensations from his environment, he lays the foundations of his intelligence by a continual exercise of observation, comparison and judgment.”
― Maria Montessori
