There are many Montessori moms and teachers (guides) that message me and start out with, “Hi! I’m so stressed out and I don’t know if I can do Montessori anymore…”
Has this thought remotely (or daily) crossed your mind?
Believe it or not, you are not the only one!
We have all been there and some of you are right in the middle of it right now!
And if you are doing Montessori at home, you are adding the stressor of the Montessori curriculum, right?
It feels like it never ends! But I am here with great news for you!
I am going to give you 3 tips to be a less stressed Montessori Guide and get back on the right track to gain smooth, successful Montessori days.
Are you ready? Get a pen and paper ready to take notes!
Tip 1: Gain a better understanding on the Montessori philosophy foundations
Why is this important to you as The Montessori teacher?
Well, if you don’t know the who and the why, then you will have a really hard time with the what and the how.
The Who: Maria Montessori.
You have to learn more about her, her observations, her career, her accomplishments and how she arrived to putting together the wonderful philosophy called The Montessori Method.
The Why: Why is Montessori so different from other methods of education?
Why is it so successful? Why are the lessons and topics taught the way that they are?
These and many more “why” questions beg to be researched.
Once you get the who and the why settled, then you can move on to the what (as in what to teach) and the how (as in how to teach it).
The Montessori Curriculum 3-6 can be very daunting, BUT, if you know the foundations of the philosophy, it will make so much more sense to you!
The great news is that I am going to be doing a free 5-day LIVE workshop that addresses some of these philosophy foundations on Day 1 that will move your knowledge to the next level.
But more on that later.
Tip 2: Remember YOUR “why”
Let’s be honest for a minute. Is that alright?
Many of us are trying to imitate Montessori schools and put on ourselves a lot more than we should.
And the truth is, children learn best when our stress level is low.
But how do we balance it all?
Between the prepared environment, Montessori materials and developing great lessons, it is easy to be feeling stressed on a regular basis.
We want our Montessori environments to be a place where we have happy, normalized children.
What are normalized children? Have you heard that term?
If you want to know why Maria Montessori used that term, what it means and why it is essential for smooth, successful Montessori days, you won’t want to miss Day 3 of the free workshop.
Anyway, back to remembering YOUR “why.”
You decided to do Montessori for a reason, right?
Remembering your “why” is what will propel you forward and will keep you running this marathon.
Take the time to sit down and write down why you are doing what you are doing.
Be honest and be kind to yourself.
Don’t write it down when you are having a low day because it will be harder to dig deep to find that initial reason.
But once you have this written down, you will feel a renewed strength to keep going.
Keep that note handy so you can reach for it whenever you need encouragement or to remember your vision.
Even better, make it all nice and frame it to keep out in the open for a constant reminder.
Tip 3: Be Kind to Yourself as the Montessori Guide
One of your main jobs as a Montessori guide is to center yourself.
A lot of how your Montessori learning day will go has to do with how centered you are.
Children pick up on so much, even things unsaid.
The beauty of doing Montessori is to follow the child.
Do what feels right in your Montessori and don’t listen to what others are telling you that you “should be” doing.
Ask yourself, “What are my goals for the Montessori learning day?”
Begin with the end in mind and go from there.
What do you want the end of the day to look like?
Start slow, take your time, observe your children a lot.
Remember that Montessori doesn’t only focus on academic subjects, but puts a lot of emphasis on grace, courtesy, care for self, others and the Montessori environment, etc.
Be that role model for them. Be kind to them, but especially to yourself.
Don’t overburden yourself and let the building of academics fog the building of character.
If there is one thing you want children to walk away with every day is to have learned to be kind and caring people.
So much of their humanity hinges on that.
The academics will be awesome once they gain that special understanding on how to be kind.
The great news is that on Day 4 of my free LIVE workshop, I will be teaching on the jobs and responsibilities of the Montessori Guide.
This content will transform your way of thinking and draw out the amazing Montessori Guide that I know is inside you!
So, let me repeat all 3 points and then I’ll give you the details on the free workshop.
