Don’t miss out and come learn more in our LIVE TRAINING BELOW!
There are original Montessori materials in all subject of the Montessori Curriculum 3-6 (ages).Whether you are thinking about this educational program in multi-age classrooms at a Montessori school or at home, children working with these lovely materials is be extremely beneficial to them…
IF they’re used correctly…
These high quality materials in the Montessori program are wonderful of child development, even when doing Montessori at home.
#1 Montessori materials are attractive and appealing to the eye.
Montessori materials are so beautiful.
Montessori materials are attractive and pleasing to the eye.
Look at some of these Montessori materials.
They definitely catch children’s attention and enjoy working with them.
What do you think will attract a child more?
A beautiful wooden frog puzzle or a piece of paper with a picture of a frog?
What about a colorful metal fractions tray or a paper with pictures of fractions?
Or what about dressing frames compared to nothing because Montessori is the only education method that capitalizes on Practical Life activities
They help the child move from dependence into independence.
Dr. Maria Montessori emphasized,
Any object that we wish to use for the education of the senses must necessarily present many different qualities such as weight, texture, colour, form, size, and so forth.
How are we to isolate from many qualities one single one so that attention may be focussed on it?
This is done by a series and its gradations; the objects are identical among themselves with exception of the variable quality which they posses.
#2 Montessori materials are durable to withstand longterm use by many.
Montessori materials are durable.
When it comes to Montessori materials, they need to be durable enough to “survive” several years’ worth of use time.
This is because Montessori classrooms have multi-age groups, with children of ages 0-2, 3-6, 6-9 and so on.
When children are going to be in the Montessori environment for several years, they become intimately familiar with the works in the classrooms.
Depending on the school or classroom, some groups can have more than 20 children, so imagine how much these materials are to be used.
I know what you are going to say… plastic is more durable than wood or cloth.
But in reality, the aim of Montessori is to use as many natural materials as possible.
Plastic is not the first material of choice.
Maria Montessori said,
“The child whose attention has once been held by a chosen object, while he concentrates his whole self on the repetition of the exercise, is a delivered soul in the sense of the spiritual safety of which we speak.
From this moment there is no need to worry about him – except to prepare an environment which satisfies his needs, and to remove obstacles which may bar his way to perfection.
#3 Most Montessori materials have many purposes and levels of learning.
Make sure that the Montessori curriculum is free of misconceptions.
And one of these misconceptions is that the original Montessori materials are for one-time use.
Many think that they are spending a lot of money, only for the child to master the material and move on.
What happens then?
Well, there are such things are Montessori material extensions!
These extensions serve as the “next level” for the original Montessori works lessons.
When The Montessori teacher is going through their professional development (seeking licensing or seeking certification), they are mostly introduced to the main lessons for each original Montessori material.
Four-year-old children composed numbers up to a thousand; and, later, children between five and six years of age made such remarkable progress that today six-year-old children can perform the four operations on numbers running into the thousands.
Montessori Materials
The Montessori educational approach, with the help of original Montessori materials, help children to develop socially, emotionally, academically and more.
