Is your home in need of decluttering? Getting rid of some of your unwanted stuff could bring a sense of calm to your home while creating more space.
There could also be another benefit to decluttering – it could be a chance to make some extra cash. Below are a few items in your home that you could sell to earn some extra money.

You can also save your money and invest it using important growth strategies. You can buy bitcoin on paybis and other ways to get the most out of your earnings.
Clothes
Many of us have clothes in our wardrobe that we never wear. Taking these to a charity shop is the most common solution. However, itโs possible you may be able to sell some of your clothes.
Sites like eBay and Preloved are popular sites for selling used clothes. When using eBay, itโs worth putting clothes up for auction for 99p and seeing what happens – in most cases youโre certain to get something.
There are other sites for specialist used clothes like designer gear, wedding dresses and vintage clothing. Consider also selling to second-hand clothes stores in your area. A car boot sale could be another way to quickly flog a load of old clothes.
Always wash clothes before selling them. Store them somewhere where they wonโt get creased.
Jewellery and watches
There are lots of places to sell used jewellery. With items like engagement rings or vintage jewellery, you may be able to fetch a high price. Try approaching specialist jewellers for the best deals.
If youโre selling gold, check the value of gold first (it tends to go up and down every few years) and then compare gold-to-cash converters. With valuable items of jewellery, try to get a few quotes before you choose a buyer to sell to.
Watches can similarly be quite valuable – especially from designer brands. Just how much is my watch worth? There are sites that can tell you this.
Try to sell via a specialist watch dealer rather than a generic second-hand dealer that may not truly know the value of your item.
Electronics
You can sell old electronics like phones, TVs, consoles and speakers online. Amazon and eBay are popular options, but there are also sites for specialist items like SellCell for phones.
You can also sell locally via sites like Facebook, Craigslist and Gumtree. When it comes to selling electronics with screens, consider providing a photo of the device with its screen turned on so that buyers can see that it definitely works.
Some sites are even willing to buy broken electronics – usually in order to strip them for parts. Look out for adverts on sites like Gumtree for old computers or phones. This is an easy way to sell iPhones online, along with any other old or damaged tech you no longer want lying around.
Alternatively, look into trusted ‘sell for parts’ sites. Some local stores and market vendors will buy used electronics. This can be worth looking into if you want a quick sale. However, in most cases, you’ll earn more money selling items online.ย

Toys
Thereโs a big market out there for used kidsโ toys. Collectibles and limited edition vintage toys will get you the most amount of money – consider whether you have any old trading cards, action figures or dolls gathering dust in your attic.
You can get toys valued online. There are quite a few sites dedicated to used toys, although itโs best to stick to the biggest and most trusted sites. Facebook can be a surprisingly good place to sell used toys – you may even be able to find pages dedicated to specialist collectibles.
You should also consider putting items up for auction on eBay (especially vintage toys and collectibles). Toys need to be in good condition to sell. Toys that are still in the box tend to carry the most value, but you can still sell toys without the original box.
You should always clean toys before selling them – particularly if young kids have been playing with them. Consider taking the time to shop for missing parts or try completing sets of collectibles before selling.
Books
Got lots of old books? Some of these could also be worth selling. First edition copies of old classics will earn you the most money – in fact, people have earnt hundreds and even thousands of pounds selling first edition Harry Potter books.
There are sites dedicated to second-hand books where you can also get a free valuation. When it comes to limited edition books, sell through these sites to get the best price or try eBay. If youโve got lots of books that arenโt worth much, a better option may be to go to a second-hand book store and ask how much theyโll pay to take them.
Make sure that childrenโs books are clean and not too damaged before selling (youโre better off donating books that arenโt in great condition).
Gym/sports equipment
Got some home gym equipment that you never use? Or perhaps youโve still got equipment from a sport youโre no longer interested in? Such equipment could be quite valuable providing that itโs in good condition.
Treadmills, exercise bikes, bicycles, skis, hockey sticks and punch bags are just some of the items worth selling. Use local selling sites like Facebook and Gumtree to sell these items. Obviously, when it comes to more premium sports and gym gear, you may want to look into more specialist sites.
Make sure all equipment is clean and in working condition before selling.

Movies/music/video games
Thought those old VHS tapes were worthless? Think again. Some old VHS tapes can be worth a lot of money – particularly limited edition Disney movies.
Some DVD and video series collections can also be worth a lot of money. To get the best prices, try eBay. As for music, vinyl is the most valuable medium.
Got a first pressing of a classic 60s or 70s album? You could get as much as ยฃ100 (about $130 US dollars) for it. Some people have made hundreds from old cases of records found in their attic.
Try specialist second-hand vinyl stores or sell on eBay. Rare copies of old video games can also be worth a lot of money. If youโve still got games from old consoles, consider getting them valued.
Make sure that such items are in good condition before selling. If possible, try to test out old VHS tapes, vinyl or video games first to make sure theyโre definitely playable.
