# 1 Wall decorations must be clean, uncluttered & safe
As you set up your spaces at home with child sized tables and chairs, living Montessori books, materials and resources, don’t forget the walls.
Remember that Maria Montessori specified her preference for natural materials, including natural wood in The Montessori spaces.
So, make sure that the wall decorations are clean, uncluttered and safe.
To be more specific, I would say that as fun as 3D or decorations that stick out of the walls, they might not be the safest.
When a child spends time in The Montessori classroom, there must be freedom of movement.
Also, make sure that they are secured to the wall well.
These rooms tend to be full as it is, so keep the decorations simple.
To assist a child we must provide him with an environment which will enable him to develop freely. ~Maria Montessori
# 2 Wall decorations must be realistic, natural & relevant
As you think about Montessori friendly decorations that are great for young children, consider the following.
Try to fill your Montessori schools or homeschools with images that are beautiful and realistic.
I personally love watercolor images because they are a lovely rendition of the real deal, but with a more artistic twist.
Take a look at the examples I am using in the photos here.
The watercolor birds in this post as well as the watercolor succulents are great for multi age classrooms.
This is because the are colorful and creative, but they are natural and relevant to a more organic lifestyle.
Walls can definitely demonstrate the natural life you aim to encourage in your children.
The child builds his inmost self out of the deeply held impressions he receives. ~Maria Montessori
# 3 Wall decorations must match and blend well with the environment
Montessori education is possible as children develop in the right environment. Take into consideration items such as those from Ecoy Australia.
The decorations in the learning living room or in a Montessori baby room must match and blend well with the environment.
Why?
Because they give continuity to vision.
They are pleasing to the eye.
They bring beauty without being “in your face.”
Look at all of the images in this post for inspiration.
I love the two ones below.
The one with the watercolor birds match and look so beautiful with the theme and color scheme of that wall.
Then the one below with the succulents, do you see how they match with the easel’s red and pink?
The neutral colors also match well with the rest of the room.
Beautiful…
The child must live in an environment of beauty. ~Maria Montessori
Ready to Decorate your Montessori environment?
I hope you are!
Even if you aren’t changing much in the environment, sometimes, just a change of decorations can give the entire room a new much-needed look.
Try it!
So, as your children are busy with their Practical Life or Sensorial works, you will love how your wall decorations are going to inspire them.
They will inspire you, too!
