Believe it or not, day trips with kids can be fun… a lot of fun, actually! They simply require pre-planning and a few other things. Planning days out with kids can be hectic, but I have tips to ensure that it will be a great experience for everyone. In this post, we will talk about just that! We will go through a list of things to do before and during day trips with kids.
Fun Day Trips with Kids Can be Fun
We love taking day trips that are within driving distance to be back home on the same day. They provide a change of scenery and fun without the extra expense of having to spend the night somewhere. Do I even have to mention the packing and unpacking part (I’m sure you love that as much as I do)? When planning any outdoor adventure with kids, you have to keep track of a few things. And mare sure that they get done. One of those things is to plan ahead. Here is a list of things to do before kids’ nature activities and day trips.
Tips to Keep Them Happy
- Copy this list and check off items as you complete them.
- Even if it is a day trip, bring a second set of clothes (including socks, shoes and an outer layer). We have learned this the hard way.
- Pack a small cooler with snacks and drinks that can be eaten in a car (think easy, not messy, easy to handle). I’d love to suggest CLIF Kid Zbars. They are perfect to handle, they aren’t messy and made with organic ingredients. We like to take just water in the car. That way, if is spills on accident, it won’t make a sticky mess. Pack enough snacks and drinks to get you all through the car trip.
- Pack another bag or cooler with more snacks and drinks. Also, pack more substantial food to keep you all going during the day. Again, the CLIF Kid Zbars are perfect for snacks. There are several flavors, so there is nothing to bore kids with, ever!
More Tips for Day Trips with Kids
- Don’t overdo it. Read their signs and don’t wait too long to take breaks. They will just get grumpy.
- Head outdoors with games kids will love for sure, so plan ahead, in case you need props. Keep in mind where you are going, so you can take some games with you that will be able to be played there. Just think of outdoor games kids play regularly and that fit the location. For example, if you are going to the beach, bring bocce ball or a baseball and mitt or a kite. CLIF Kid Zbars will definitely come in handy with so much playing and running around!
- Day trips with kids can go a bit long, so don’t forget to pack baby wipes and a set of pajamas for your kids. Sometimes, we are having so much fun that we end up driving back later in the day and get home after bedtime. No need to stress or panic. Before you head back, wipe them down and put them in their pajamas. That way, they can go straight to bed and they’ll be comfortable in the ride back.
Planning your next outdoor adventure with kids?
When planning any outdoors and kids activities we have to plan well, pack well and expect it all to go well. One of the best things that I can recommend for day trips with kids and anytime is to always keep CLIF Kid Zbars around. Let me tell you a little bit more about them. They are made with organic ingredients and are non-GMO. They’re perfect for kids ages 4-12 and CLIF Kid Zbars are absolutely delicious as a snack after any kid of physical activity like soccer, martial arts, and baseball. They are also great, like I mentioned, as snacks on-the-go. We have some on our way back from homeschool co-op, on our way to a long grocery shopping trip and we love them when we go camping.
The Importance of Childhood Play
Statistics show that play is disappearing at home, in school, and in communities. 70% of moms played outside when they were kids. 31% of their kids play outside today. CLIF Kid Zbars makes nutritious snacks from organic ingredients that are specially-crafted for kids’ developing taste buds and active lives. Whether on the run from soccer practice, or in between homework sessions, CLIF Kid Zbars are perfect for growing kids (and busy parents!). So, whatever you do, grab a great snack, a bottle of water, head outside and play!
I hope the list I shared with you will help you on your next day trip with kids! 🙂
