We strive for hands-on math activities that make lasting impressions on our kids.

Edible Math Activities and Recipes ~ Fibonacci Snack Sticks
The basis of the Fibonacci snack sticks is to create the Fibonacci pattern using foods that are easily skewered on kebab sticks!
The children used cut up fruits, marshmallows, and gummy bears to create their patterns.
Fibonacci Facts: This was such a fun activity for the children. Not only did they enjoy a hands-on activity that dealt with predicting numbers, but they learned some fun facts about the mathematician Fibonacci!
- Did you know Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician during the Middle Ages and lived from 1170 to 1250?
- Rabbits were to blame for the discovery of the famous Fibonacci pattern. Fibonacci was investigating a problem involving the growth and population of rabbits.
- The Fibonacci pattern is found throughout nature. The seed head of a sunflower and the outer skin of a pineapple, for instance, both have a consecutive Fibonacci number of spirals.
- The Fibonacci pattern of numbers begins 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21,….and continues to infinity! Do you see the pattern? The Fibonacci sequence adds the two previous numbers to get the next: 1+1=2, 1+2=3, 2+3=5, 3+5=8, 5+8=13, 8+13=21, and so on.
