Classical Conversations Week 2: Timeline and Geography
Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
Patriarchs of Israel
2000BC
Hittites and Caananites
Kush
Assyrians
Babylonians
China’s Shang Dynasty
This is just one example of one week’s Timeline memory work. If we have time, we go in depth with each topic, but we usually can’t, so we mention the highlights. Right now, K is so young that we don’t need to be that thorough on all the details. Plus, this material will most definitely be revisited and talked about in depth.
These cards are from Veritas Press. They have descriptions in the back on the events pictured. The descriptions are at about a 5th grade level. Some Classical Conversations families still use them, but now the company has made their own (see picture below). They are beautiful, but are written at a high school level, so they are harder to understand by little ones. |
This is how I use the Timeline cards. We hang them up on the top line. I can fit three weeks at a time. |
This map is from Wisdom and Righteousness. Please visit her blog for more information. She did a fantastic job! For Week 1, we memorized the Fertile Crescent. For Week 2, we learned about the Assyrian Empire (see below). |

Reading Log
These are some of the books we read this week. I confess, we have read a lot more than the ones I have kept track of. I did a much better job at that in September.
One of my favorites to read. Great message. |
Our co-op is wanting to put together a yearbook. This is my guy’s picture. Handsome. |
Field Trip: Pumpkin Patch
I know that this doesn’t look like a pumpkin patch, but I volunteered to watch the other volunteers’ children so they can help out at the patch. We did get a chance to check it out, but I didn’t get pictures this time.
For the Home: New Window Dรฉcor
I found these mason jars. They are frosted with a clear bid and branch. Very simple and very cute. They definitely added beauty and serenity to the room with all the water and green.
God’s Love and Gift to Us: The Plan of Salvation through Ribbon
God’s love, grace and forgiveness are such wonderful and unmerited gifts to us. We treasure these in our family and we make sure to raise our children in God’s ways. My husband and I want for our children to love God and to want to be close to Him. To do that, they need to understand how to do that.
I made one “gift of grace and salvation box” for each of my kids (a toddler and a preschooler) and they are having a lot of fun with them. The ribbons are tied to one another and they pull as they describe each step. It is a great way for little ones to understand the gift of grace and what our part is in it.

You will need:
-a box with a lid
-a card to describe each step (like a gift tag)
-ribbon (about 1 foot of each)
black
red
white
green
gold
The black ribbon represents the sin in our lives.
|
The red ribbon represent the blood that Jesus shed at the cross to die for our sins.
|
The white ribbon represents the new and clean life
that we find in Christ after our sins are forgiven.
|
The green ribbon represents growth in our lives. We share
the message of Christ with others and grow out love for Him.
|
The gold ribbon represents the golden crown that
we will get in heaven when we meet our Maker.

Family Genealogy
My parents visited a few weeks ago. My dad has been very interested in our family tree and this is what he has collected so far. Whoa! This is amazing! And this is only from his side of the family. We still need to add my mom’s side.
Speaking of family, my dad also gave me this dolphin pin that used to belong to my grandmother. What a privilege to wear it!
