This is an exciting topic for me because I have been reading Maria Montessori’s books for many, many years and I haven’t heard anyone loving them as much as I do.
Why?
Because many find her books hard to read and sometimes, very technical.
After all, they were written in Italian, Maria Montessori’s first language.
And she was a genius, with various academic degrees (including medical school), which may be the reason why her books are very technical.
But don’t let that stop you! This is an amazing educational program, starting at zero years of age.
In this post, live show recording and podcast episode, I am going to share with you 3 favorite Montessori quotes for you to ponder on.
Quote 1: To Become a Centered, Organized Montessori Guide
“We must help the child to act for himself, will for himself, think for himself; this is the art of those who aspire to serve the spirit.” ― Maria Montessori
I think this is a wonderful quote because it delineates everything for you right there… one quote, your job… end of story.
The most important thing is to aspire to serve the spirit of a child, but you also have to keep in mind how can I guide the child to act for himself, will for himself, think for himself?
So right then and there, you will be more centered in knowing don’t have to manipulate the child.
You don’t have to be the center of attention in the classroom.
You don’t have to be completely stressed out about things that are not your job.
Your job is to be centered, to prepare the environment based on your observations of the child and to help the child reach their highest potential.
Make sure that you write down this quote and write down that this quote is for a centered, organized Montessori Guide.
Quote 2: To Nurture Happy, Normalized Children
“The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, “The children are now working as if I did not exist.” ― Maria Montessori
Quote #2 is specifically for nurturing happy, normalized children.
When we talk about “normalization” or “normalized,” we’re not talking about a child being normal or not.
We are talking about the child being adjusted successfully in their Montessori environment.
The Montessori environment is another term for Montessori classrooms.
When children are normalized, whether you are at a Montessori school or doing Montessori at home, you, as the Guide, get to be hands off.
These young children are able to go through the routines of the environment without constantly being told what to do or how to do it.
This is a great quote to keep in mind to encourage you.
This is your goal… to build a well-oiled machine.
You will love how children will keep functioning on their own without you constantly being the center of attention.
You are an instrumental part of the environment, just not the most prominent part of the environment.
You are constantly working in the background for the for the foreground to be a success.
Quote 3: to create Smooth, Successful Montessori Days
“An education capable of saving humanity is no small undertaking; it involves the spiritual development of man, the enhancement of his value as an individual, and the preparation of young people to understand the times in which they live.” ― Maria Montessori
Quote #3 is one super key and it’s to create some moves successful Montessori days.
This quote by Maria Montessori was written many decades ago.
It is so timely today, isn’t it?
I want you to think about it for second.
I want to read it through and remember it is no small undertaking to save humanity.
This is not to overwhelm you!
It is to encourage you… to boost your self-esteem and your confidence to tell you what you are doing is a big deal.
You are important! You are special! You are here for a reason! You are helping to save humanity and it’s no small undertaking.
Why are we saying that we are saving humanity?
You are creating an entire human being that you are going to be educating for life, not just in the year to year and day to day academics.
You are saving humanity when you are successful in your Montessori environment because when you help these children grow up going to go out into the world, they will be an influence in the world.
And if we have more and more of these wonderful happy, normalized adults that are able to function in society with the added things like the Practical Life that we include in the Montessori Method.
Also, with the Sensorial where they are more aware of everything, even every subtle change in their environment
And finally, with the grace and courtesy that The Montessori Philosophy encourages and focuses on so much.
Can you see how that really is life-changing?
In Conclusion
I hope that this has sparked a great inspiration inside you to want to read Maria Montessori’s books!
