It can be an exciting and daunting time when it comes to your children starting homeschool. Kindergarten is something that both you and your children will feel nervous about, so starting as a home educator can be even more scary. It’s a complete change in family life; however, with some planning and preparation, you can ease the change and turn it into something that everyone can look forward to.

Let’s have a look at some of the things you can do to help everyone feel ready to start homeschool:
Read Books
A great way to get your children ready for this next step in their lives is to read some stories about starting school. They can be factual or fictional; either way, it’s going to get them thinking about school and make them feel more aware of what they can expect.
No child will understand completely until they start homeschooling and experience it for themselves; however, when you read them some stories, they can begin to process the change before they go. Think about reading some stories about starting homeschool and what it might be like. It’s all about making the transition from complete free time to having a slightly more structured learning environment.

Teach Them The New Routine
When you start to teach your children from home full time, it can be a huge change in the dynamic in the house. They have been used to having complete free time, and now they are going to be moving on from having several hours a day of focused education.
It might be a good idea to get some activity books and start introducing some focused education times before you move towards full-time education. This can help to ease them into the new routine and make it less stressful. In some ways, starting homeschooling can be more challenging than starting mainstream school, as there is more temptation and home comfort as distractions.

Get Them Prepared
When it comes to starting school, you need to make sure that they are fully prepared and have everything that they need. It’s a good idea to create a list of everything they are going to need. You will need to have educational materials so you can start planning your work and projects, posters for the walls, exercise books, stationery, craft materials, educational toys, and more.
If you want to get some ideas, it might be worth talking to a local school such as the Hercules preschools. They may be able to give you an idea of what they are going to be focusing on in the first term.
You may also be able to get a list online, such as from Pinterest, of all the essentials you need to get to homeschool. Once you have them all, you can set up a home education station so you are ready to begin.
These three tips should help you and your children feel more confident about starting homeschool. Do you have any tips that could help? Please let us know in the comments below.
