The Montessori method of teaching is very methodical, but it isn’t too hard to handle. With using the Montessori alphabet, we can do it in several steps. We just need to definitely include the moveable alphabet.
For this lesson, we used:

You don’t have to spend money on the actual large moveable alphabet, but if you want to, you can find it here:
If you prefer to get our Montessori materials (free printables), then you can print them out in color and laminate them for durability. Find them at the end of this post. In the printable, we have a card with the order in which the letters can be introduced. We have done that several times.
This time, we simply used the actual alphabet order (a, b, c, etc). Place the letters next to the child, discuss the letter names and sounds. Then have the child trace the letters with the fingertips and then copy the letters onto the lined whiteboard. Use blue and red dry erase markers.
Montessori Cursive Moveable Alphabet
While my 6-year old was using the manuscript moveable alphabet, my son was using the cursive version. You can use our Montessori Language materials ~ free downloads, if you want to use the manuscript ones.
My 8-year old has been writing cursive for some time, but this activity is a lot of fun to him. He used the Montessori movable alphabet box with cursive letters and set them up on the lid of the box. It is always wonderful to watch him so focused and writing his cursive letters so beautifully.
