When I wanted a writing curriculum for my son, I wanted to find the best. We have tried several, but I wasn’t 100% sold on them. Until this one. Let me tell you about writing lessons and sentence starters for kids writing with confidence.
In this post, we will talk about kids writing and learning to do it right. It is so exciting for us, especially because I have seen benefits. Take a look at the most fantastic sentence starters for story writing with kids.
The Most Fantastic Sentence Starters for Story Writing with Kids
You know that writing lessons go beyond sentence starters for creative writing, but it is certainly a great start. I am so happy to have found this great set! It is called “All Things Fun & Fascinating.”
Not only is it teaching us so much about proper writing lessons, but it is also a precursor to the writing curriculum that we will be using next Fall at our Classical Conversations Essentials class.
If you have gotten a taste of Classical education at all, you will know that it is very structured, comprehensive and rigorous. This is the perfect complement for it!
But, if you want one subject with more flexibility, this can be it. Let me be clear that this is not exclusive to the Classical education way of homeschooling, but it certainly fit in really well with it.
We like to do 2-3 pages at a time, instead of a full lesson. It gives us time to learn together and digest the tips that are being taught. It has been a lot of fun for both of us! It is “our thing” to do together.
There are many theme-based writing sets. They are all wonderful and very helpful. There are some for grades K-2, some for grades 3-5, others for 6-8 and even more for others.
Fun Sentence Writing Activities
Now that you have seen what the best homeschool writing program options are, give it a try, like we did! I chose the Fun and Interesting set for us to begin with. It has many great stories that boys (and girls) will love.
Not only are there story writing sentence starters at the beginning, but I love everything that it teaches. For starters, it covers a lot. It includes how to make an outline and sentence starters based on a text.
It also includes text decorations and checklists on things to include in the writing. This writing program teaches kids about banned words, strong verbs, quality adjectives, similes, alliterations, rewriting stories and more!
So, if you are looking for an excellent homeschool writing curriculum that actually teaches your child how to write creatively without overwhelming them, then these theme-based sets are definitely worth a try!
You can buy the student book and the teacher book separately or together. I got both, since it was the first time using this curriculum. I referred to the teacher book a lot at the beginning.
But now, I feel pretty confident on how it works that I don’t use it as much. I might not get the teacher book with the next one that we get. What I love is that I am able to help my child and learn things right along with him.
Writing the Natural Way
These IEW theme-based sets teach kids techniques to writing the natural way. It is so wonderful to see how much he has advanced and learned in just a few lessons using this curriculum.
The very first page of the Student book comes with a website link and a code to download a digital PDF file. It is full of super helpful tips that we refer to when we want to go more in depth.
You can see how I printed them out and put them in a binder on the second image of this post. It has become our reference binder because it contains writing terms and explanations, as well as examples.
