Alright, if you are reading this post, it is because you have been looking for an effective and fun way to teach your young one to read. Well, here it is. I am going to tell you all about the Reading Lesson that has taught my little one how to read and has made my life so much easier in terms of learning to read.
Here is the Reading Lesson. We reviewed this kit and we are glad we did. It is a beautiful set that was put together with much thought and it is effective in how it covers techniques and strategies to teach a child to read. You might be surprised that I am using it with my 3.5-year old daughter, but she really is ready and, even if we take a slower pace, she is loving it and I am seeing results.
The Reading Lesson kit comes with the main workbook, the Storybook CD, the Writing CD and the Reading CD-ROM. Best of all, it comes with Giggly Bunny, the cutest stuffed bunny and the main character in the kit. Sister loves holding Giggle Bunny during her lessons and many times, she reads to him. There is also a t-shirt for your child.
The Reading Lesson is divided into 20 lessons. Each lesson is very complete and is about 19 pages long. I like to break it up like this:
- Monday, 4 pages in the workbook and story CD
- Tuesday, 5 pages in the workbook
- Wednesday, do the CD-ROM lesson on my laptop
- Thursday, 5 pages in the workbook
- Friday, the last 5 pages in the workbook
As of now, we are using the Writing CD, but not as much because our focus right now is the reading part, but we have used some of it and it is fantastic. It is a CD full of PDF files of printable pages for writing practice. I am excited to start using it more in a few weeks when Sister is more used to reading words.
I want to show you a video of Sister learning to read using the Reading Lesson. It is real, uncut footage, so you can see that, even though it isn’t perfect, she really is learning to read. I couldn’t be happier. This is a few weeks ago. Now, a few lessons later, I can definitely see growth and how she is loving to read.

Here is a shot of one of the screens of the Reading Lesson CD-ROM. Sister loves the Giggly Bunny and I love how well it teaches my child the lesson. She enjoys typing the words, reading and learning in a fun way.
I hope you take a look at the Reading Lesson and consider trying it. We are finishing up six lessons and I am already seeing progress and she is really enjoying it. I will be updating this post once we are halfway through the lessons and the when we are done with the 20 lessons. I will post videos, too, so you can see the progress as well. Yay!

I used this to teach my now 7-year old to read when he was 4. It was an excellent resource, and he loved it. He is an excellent reader, now. First grader by age, but reading and comprehending at 6th grade level. He is also an excellent speller. I would recommend it to anyone who wants an easy way to teach their child to read. I love it has no extra unnecessary fluff. After we finished it, we picked up a copy of “Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading.” It goes further than “The Reading Lesson” as far as explaining other phonetics. Now, we too, are going through the “Big Words for Little Kids.” I bought it last year, but got lazy, and we didn’t complete it so we have started again.
