When it comes to being a farmer, or at least someone who owns farm animals, there can at times, be some blurred lines between what’s livestock and what’s a pet. All farmers know that you can’t form a bond with livestock.
But in cases where you own farm animals, and they’re simply your pets, they need to know they feel loved. They don’t live inside your house like cats and dogs, so it’s not like they can lay and cuddle with you. But you can still do some things to make them feel completely loved. So, keep reading on to find out what they are!

Give them Plenty of Space
When it comes to your farm, are your animals getting enough space? Just like humans, animals need space to move and roam around. Think about how a cat or a dog is treated; their needs aren’t so different from a farm animal. In fact, farm animals tend to have more needs. Make sure that there is enough space for your animals. They need to move around, run, frolic, and so much more. Like any other animal, they have energy, which needs to be released.
Give Them a Treat Once in a While
One of the best ways to make your farm animals feel appreciated is to give them a treat from time to time. This can be as simple as a bowl of fruit or as complex as a new toy to play with. Providing them with a treat will instantly make them happy! While this could be filled up your Roostys chicken feeder with tasty, nutritious treats for your birds, just being around them and playing with them will be quite the treat too!

Get to Know Your Animals
Don’t be a stranger to your animals! Even if they are farm animals! A lot of people believe that farm animals can’t show compassion for their owners, but it’s further from the case. While feeding them helps in growing a bond, getting the chance to observe and interact will help them know that you love them. Each animal, regardless of species, is going to have their own unique personality, so wouldn’t you want to know the personality of your farm animals?
Spend Time with Them
Spending time with farm your farm animals is vital. You need to grow a bond with them. These animals have an important role in our food system and deserve to be treated with respect, compassion, and love! Even if they’re not livestock, mere animals for your farm, they still need to be loved. Make sure to pet them, be around them, and show them lots of love. They will return the favor! So, why not dive into your favorite farm activities?

Keep them Occupied with Toys
Barnyard animals aren’t any different from cats and dogs; they need to be entertained! Toys are a great way to keep your farm animals occupied, especially if they’re stuck in a stall or pen for long periods of time. For instance, goats and sheep are naturally curious and social creatures, so providing a few toys to play with is always a good idea. They’re going to definitely feel loved by you by having a few toys to play with.
