Painting on Rocks for Kids

Use these awesome painting rocks ideas kids to paint your own owls, but then branch off to get creative! Here are the rock painting instructions for our craft:

1 Practice painting your rock on a pear, like I did below. That way, you will know what to do in each step.

2 Choose the color paints you will use, beside white, black and yellow. Pour them on the paint trays.

3 Paint the entire oval rock with a dark color. Let it dry.

4 Use the round foam brush to paint the belly feathers. Simply mix the dark color with some white to make it lighter. See below.

5 Slowly, starting on the bottom, start painting rounds, overlapping a little bit. Let dry.

6 Use the dark paint again to paint the wings on either side of the belly feathers. Let them dry completely.

7 Paint two white circles for the eyes. When they dry, paint two small black dots inside the middle of the white circles. Let dry.

8 Use a tiny corner of a paintbrush to paint a small yellow beak.

9 Try it with other rocks and other colors!

They will learn patience because they need to pause and wait for the paint to dry between steps.
