This is a WONDERFUL program on famous composers of classical music! We have been enjoying it so much! Let me tell you about our review of Music Appreciation: Book 1 for the Elementary Grades by Zeezok Publishing LLC. You will really appreciate how awesome and complete this curriculum is. Honestly, this will be the easiest way to teach music appreciation. Let me show you why.
Famous Composers of Classical Music {Unit Studies}
Music Appreciation: Book 1 for the Elementary Grades is fantastic! This is what you get when you get this set. It includes the activity book, music CDs with several pieces for every composer, a CD-ROM with digital files for lapbooks with instructions) one lap book for every composer) and a chapter book on the story of every composer included on this set.
In this famous composers of classical music set includes Sebastian Bach, Handel, Haydn, Ludwig Beethoven, Mozart, Paganini and Franz Schubert. Every composer has its own 4-week unit and it stands on its own, so you can jump around between composers without missing out on anything. We decided to start with Beethoven.

The reason why we wanted to start with Beethoven is because he is my son’s favorite composer. He can play several of his songs on the piano and he enjoys having something in common with his favorite Peanuts Gang character: Shroeder. And it was a great choice! We have really, really loved this unit and can’t wait to get into the other units and learn about other composers’ lives and music.
We started with reading a chapter in the life of Beethoven’s chapter book then we followed the handy activity book schedule, which is included in the activity book. We also used the music CDs when prompted in the lessons and the lap book, which I put together from the beginning of the unit. You can also put the lap book together as you get to each activity.
Watch how my little ones were enjoying listening to Beethoven’s music using the CDs included after we read about how Beethoven composed them and how old he was. They danced and danced through the Sonatina, the Ecossaise I and II as well as Romance. They came up with the idea of dancing all on their own and it was lots of fun.
We use Music Appreciation: Book 1 for the Elementary Grades daily and do one or two pages at a time to keep the continuity and keep it fresh. When we read the chapter book, I read about 5 pages per day until we complete the chapter. The content is amazing and I really want us to focus and learn from it. We just love learning about famous composers of classical music!
So what do we think of Zeezok’s Music Appreciation book 1? We LOVE it! My children and I love it and look forward to reading and learning about famous composers. What I enjoyed the most was learning about the little details of their lives and their families as they grew up. What my children loved the most was the music and the activity book.
