Good Blog Questions {FAQs for bloggers}
1. How did you decide to start blogging?
Well, this definitely has to be on the top of our “good blog questions” list! It is always fascinating to hear other bloggers’ stories and learn what inspired them to start a blog. My story is simple: we lived away from family, so I started a blog as a journal of our family and homeschooling adventures until I started to virtually hang out with other bloggers and learn a lot from them.
I realized what the blogging world has to offer and I was interested and curious on how I would fare in that world. About a year and a half after starting my blog, I started to take it more seriously (not jut as a hobby) by moving to WordPress and started to dedicate more time to it then.

2. When did you decide to monetize your blog and how did you do it?
I decided to monetize my blog when I realized that I could be using my blog to pay for our homeschooling materials. After all, I am blogging about our homeschool…wouldn’t it be nice to get something out of all the time, effort and free printables that we offer on the blog? Well, let me tell you, it has worked out beautifully. We have been able to pay for our homeschooling expenses in their entirety through the blog and it has been a great blessing!
3. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
My favorite thing about blogging is blogging. Hahaha! Got you there, didn’t I? In reality, I have many favorite things about it. One if the friendships and networking I have with other bloggers. Some have become lifelong friends, for sure! Another favorite thing is, like I mentioned, is that it pays for our homeschooling in its entirety. It has been a god-send!
Something else that is awesome is that I started doing some VA (virtue assistant) jobs here and there for other bloggers and my blogging experience has helped me so much to help them out, to work for them and to make their blogs bigger and better. And one of my favorite things about blogging, hands down, has been the connection I can have with my readers/followers and how grateful they are to be receiving so many free printables and delicious recipes that they get for their homeschools on my blog.

4. How do you find time to blog and homeschool and take care of the house?
That is an excellent question! It is a bit of a juggling game and, to be truthful, it requires discipline and organization. First off, I wake up early and get a few things done. It is mostly promoting the new blog post that went live that day. Then we eat breakfast and my children go play with Legos or go build stuff with wooden blocks or Lincoln logs. During their playtime, I do some VA (virtual assistant) jobs and maybe get some photo editing for my blog posts. Then they do some online schoolwork in the same room as me. I keep an eye on them as I work some more.
After that, we head over to the homeschool room and work until lunch. I put dinner in the crockpot, we eat lunch and homeschool for another hour or so. After that, we are done with homeschooling, so while they play, I work a little more. Then I go and play with the kids (we go to the splash pad, have popsicles, read a book or two or my favorite: I build stuff with legos with them). When hubby gets back from work, I head over to the gym to workout and then finish dinner up (make sides and such). If I wasn’t done with everything during the day, I will work on my blog in the evening, after everyone goes to bed, but I prefer to spend the evening with the family and go to bed when hubby goes to bed.
5. How do you make the free printables that you offer on your blog?
I usually use Microsoft Word, Adobe and PicMonkey. Some people use Powerpoint and Photoshop. I am happy with what I use and works. If it wasn’t working, I’d definitely try these second options. I simply get some stock images and create some of the graphics on PicMonkey and transfer them to Word and save as a PDF file. To upload the files to my blog, I use eStore because, even though all of the printables are free right now, I might eventually do bundle sales and such and eStore will come in handy. I also use an SEO optimizer to help me find popular post titles to make them more searcheable.

6. How do you like doing product reviews?
At first, it was scary to do reviews. I wasn’t sure if I didn’t like a product and have to write an honest and negative review. I was nervous about vendors’ high expectations and I was simply nervous about reviewing things that we didn’t really need or want. But it hasn’t been the case. I have been extremely careful when picking was to review.
I do my research and if I honestly don’t think that it would benefit our homeschool in any way, then I simply don’t go for it. In the 3 years or so of doing reviews, I am proud to say that we have only gotten a couple of not-so-good products to review. That is it! And thanks to the curriculum and materials that we review, they help in not having to buy it ourselves for our homeschool. So reviews also help us cover expenses for our homeschool. 😉
