When it comes to first grade homeschool curriculum, the options and price ranges are endless!
It seems like many of us, homeschooling parents, will stress over what and how we will choose to use for our first graders.
I want to, first of all, encourage you to not despair, wonderful homeschool moms.
Whether you are planning on homeschooling through high school or you are taking it one year at a time, homeschool planning is easier than you think.
Yes, maybe there are too many choices and decisions to make, but they aren’t as hard as you think.
You will find some great stuff and you will be on your way to homeschooling your first grader with success.
Before you leave this blog post, be sure to visit our hub of printables for first graders!
You can adjust most of them for kids that are older and younger.
First Grade Homeschooling Made Easy
See, for first grade lessons, children need maybe one hour per day to do their learning.
Maybe kids will want to do two hours a day total, if you include a craft or an art lesson.
In reality, like I also said in the Kindergarten homeschooling made easy post, young ones need to be kids and play and learning will come naturally as we enjoy the activities we do.
In our homeschool, most of our homeschooling is hands-on, but we do include some paper-and-pencil work to encourage reading directions, penmanship, reading and other important skills.

1st Grade Homeschool: All Subjects & Problem Solving
There are literally thousands of curriculum choices for your homeschooling journey.
You can make homeschooling simple or as complicated as you prefer.
What is important is that you make the learning experience successful for your kids and for yourself.
Many homeschooling families are opting to use workbooks in the early years and go into a full curriculum later.
So, using workbooks will ensure that the important skills and subjects and topics to be learned for a first grader, while not stressing children too much.
Something I like about these is that you don’t have to write lesson plans.
Just follow the pages in order and that is it!
Another thing I will also mention that learning preferences (auditory, visual, kinesthetic) are important.
Kids love hands-on activities like the ones offered here.
So, spending a lot of money in a curriculum that we aren’t even sure if it’ll work for our children is a source for stress in parents.
We don’t want to waste money, time or resources, right?
Well, with workbooks, parents can sit with their child for 30 minutes a day.
You can teach multiple ages at the same time!
They can do some of these paper-and-pencil activities without you stressing over price because these workbooks are quite affordable!

First Grade Homeschool Math
First grade homeschool Math lessons can be quite overwhelming, both for parents and children.
But actually, it doesn’t have to be that way at all.
These workbooks come with first grade Math worksheets that will make it easy for kids to learn.
They will learn all the Math concepts they need to.
And they will learn without all the fuss and all the expensive curricula.
In the section above this one, I shared some great workbooks that cover all subjects.
We have some of those, but it is also great to have a book for each specific subject.
Kids get to pick a couple to work on per day.

Language Arts (Spelling, Sight Words, Reading)
For first grade phonics, we do one or two pages per day and then call it a day for that subject.
It is fun to watch the progress and learning that takes place in little spurts at a time.
After all, we homeschool so we can make lessons fun, shorter and cover more ground than regular schools, right?
Workbooks help with that. I also like the workbooks that have first grade reading games.
This is because they are targeted, to the point and we can include all kids in the reading.

Homeschool First Grade Science & Geography
And for first grade activities, we must definitely include some awesome hands-on crafts and Science experiments.
Here are some wonderful workbooks, full of creative learning ideas.
Just looks at the covers! Aren’t they fun?
I like to have one workbook for each subject and do 2 per day.
That way, kids don’t get too stressed about doing too much paper-and-pencil work.
You don’t stress out about what to teach or about breaking the bank.
I suggest you also choose 2 for each subject so you have one of each to work with.
But have a second one, in case your child (like my oldest) gets too involved in one subject and completes the entire workbook quickly. ๐
