We love Science, therefore, we study it quite a bit!
We love learning new things about the world and we found the perfect curriculum for it a little over a year ago and we still love it!
As you may know, we started our Nancy Larson 2 Science curriculum a couple of months ago and I am excited to show you how much we have learned!
This unit was about Physics, so we became physicists! Yea!
Fun Physics Demonstrations for Kids
This was a very fun unit!
It was very different from our curriculum last year, so the kids’ expectations were peaked when they saw the lessons in this unit.
We are all loving it so much! We started out learning about Scientists, who they are, what they study, etc.
Then we talked about Physics and that this Science subject is about the physical properties of matter.
In order to do that, we became physicists, wearing our white coats and everything!
To start the fun Physics demonstrations for kids included in the Nancy Larson Science 2 curriculum, we went outside to explore the world and to realize that it is all made of matter.
Everything is matter of matter, from huge rocks to tiny sand specks on the huge rocks.
We went back inside and wrote down new vocabulary like: matter, solid, liquid, gas.
We also discussed what each one is and read books about each.
Learning about Matter
It was fun learning about living and nonliving matter.
It was fascinating reading and talking about natural and human-made matter and going on a scavenger hunt to find both kinds of matter.
We also learned about how to describe matter by using words like color, luster, texture and within those, we can use rough, smooth, shiny, dull, grainy, etc.
We made chart and flashcards to sort them all. It was fun and we still play with them to review.
This unit is very complete. It includes enough fun Physics demonstrations for kids to learn quite a bit with each lesson.
Take a look below at the 19 lessons in this unit. Aren’t the topics awesome?
This unit had a great mix of paper-and-pencil and hands-on activities t really grasp the vocabulary and the concept of matter and how it is categorized.
Finally, here is a picture of everything that comes in the Nancy Larson Science 2 set.
It takes us about 9 months to go through the entire curriculum.
It is very thorough, very complete and very fun. Take a look here to get more information and sample lessons.
