Let’s Get Moving!
- Play catch the ball (use a glove and baseball or a football) with a friend, a neighbor or mom and dad. it is fun when a kid learns well and tosses the ball farther and farther, isn’t it?
- Play ball! Kick a soccer ball around and get some energy out! The player stands at ta safe distance and kicks hard!
- Grab a hoola hoop (some call it hula hoop) and learn coordination and practice this awesome gross motor skill!
- Start the game Capture the Flag with your kids and their friends with a bang! They will love it!
- What about playing Red Light, Green Light? Someone calls green light or red light. On green light, kids run toward one specific direction as fast as they can until the caller says “red light.” They freeze. The first kid that reaches the goal, wins!
- The game of Hide and Seek is a classic and a favorite!
- Jumping rope is also an energy burner! A classic game for the outdoors and indoors!
- Create an obstacle course with your kids! What an awesome and fun outdoor game!
- Make some paper airplanes and fly them around. This is a fun activity for kids of all ages!
- Borrow a golf club for your height and go with mom or dad to the driving range to hit some golf balls.
- Go to an open area and throw a frisbee around with a friend, a neighbor or mom and dad.
- Run around to release some energy! You will love the fresh air and maybe even coming up with small goals or playful competitions with family members.
- Go rollerskating or rollerblading!

Outdoor Games for Kids
Here are more fun games to play outside!
- Bring out your favorite board game and play with a friend! Giant Chess, chutes and ladders, Jumbo Connect Four and the like are great examples.
- Count objects! Go to a bush in your front yard or park and count the flowers on the bush with mom or count cars in the park parking lot. You can count how many children are playing there or how many dogs are in the doggie park. Take it a step further and make a list of those objects in a handy dandy notebook!
- Play on the swings and sing as many songs as you can think of (like nursery rhymes) while swinging. It is fun when your kid closes their eyes and imagine fun things to do during Summer.
- Get a trampoline! Fun In The Backyard: Still Life And Jumping Around
- Play the horseshoe game. Some parks have fixed ones. If your park doesn’t have a set, you can bring your own portable horseshoe game (they are lightweight).
- Get a bean bag toss game or corn hole.
- Feed the ducks in a nearby pond or lake (if it is permitted). All you need is old bread in crumbs or small chunks of crackers.
- Lay on the grass and stare at clouds. Find fun shapes in the clouds and share what you all see.
