We love studying about Geography and History, but this time, we honed in on 5 Great Ancient Civilizations: Art & Architecture.
You can read about all of them HERE. It really put a spin on our entire study!
Our perspective changed and our eyes were specifically scouting for the art, the architecture, the detail, and the style of the culture.
In this post, you will see a little bit of what we did the learn about Ancient Native America & Ancient Maya Civilization Art & Architecture.
Check out the books we read for this unit.
You will also read about our free printable cards and several ways to use them.
Please sit back and enjoy reading through it all. You will find it as fascinating as we did!
Don’t forget to visit our resources hub for music and fine arts!
It is full of wonderful hands-on ideas for you to use at home.
Let’s come closer to home. We studied several civilizations in Native America.
As you know, there are many Native American tribes and groups, so we focused on a couple: those that live specifically in the United States and the Mayans of Mesoamerica.
There is so much history and so much information that I cannot wait to delve into these groups and tribes.
My husband has some Native American blood in him, therefore, my children have some Native American in them as well.
It will be fascinating learning about that specific tribe.
And I am originally from Mexico born and raised), and, even though I don’t have native blood in me (my ancestors come from Spain and France), I grew up with the native culture all around me.
The free printable cards I made focus more on the tribes of Ancient Native America & Ancient Maya Civilization Art and architecture, discussing the homes that were built on the sides of steep cliffs, the awesome clay homes, bricks, pots and vases.
The stone drawings were close in design, but in general, each is fascinating and worthy of mention.
We personally saw some on some of our hikes in Colorado, Arizona and Utah this past summer.
During our lesson, I included some of our Mayan pyramid mini replicas and pictures of our trip to the Yucatan Peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico.
It was just an introduction as there is so much to talk about, but they loved remembering our trip (no to mention that Playa del Carmen and Cancun were beautiful).
