Birdwatching for kids is an amazing experience. Imagine giving them a field guide of local birds and a pair of binoculars and send them off to explore and find birds!
What an amazing Scavenger Hunt game that would be! And now, imagine going through an owl pellets dissection together to discover the animal that a farm owl ate.
Wow! Your little naturalists and ornithologists will have a field day with these!
Bird Facts for Kids
We got an amazing kit with books that taught us many facts about birds for kids and adults, alike. The binoculars and the list of birds for kids made it easy to just head outside to explore.
But our favorite was that taught us facts about owl pellets and we even got to dissect one!

Owl Pellet Dissection Kit
You can find your own in nature or you can order owl pellets. We love that ours came with a book, so we got to learn facts about owls, and owl pellets.
It answered my children’s question, “Are owl pellets made to look like a fur ball or are they fur balls?” Haha! We discovered so much, just by reading about them.
But the best part was actually dissecting the owl pellet after our birdwatching expedition!
Owl Pellets for Kids
Some friends we know have found a tree by their house where some owl live. They readily find owl pellets at the bottom of the tree.
The ones we got are sterilized owl pellets, which means that we won’t have to worry about handling them and contracting bacteria or other things because, after all, there are dead animals in there!
Also, you can get owl pellets from different kids of owls. Ours were barn owl pellets, so chances were that we’d find the skeleton of a rodent in the pellets. And we did, actually!
Free Activity Download
We have a file with several pages of activities and crafts that you can download for free to do with your family. They all relate to birdwatching and birds in general in one way of another. Check it out!
