Penguin Books & Activity {Free Printable Pages}

Welcome to our penguin world! Everything you will read here will be about penguins. They are so cute and unique. They are birds that don’t fly and migrate extreme distances under extreme conditions.

We had a wonderful time learning more about penguins, where they live, what they eat and unique features. And don’t forget to see our book list hub! It is full of lists of books on all kinds of topics on all subjects! You will love it and find it very helpful!

Penguin Books & Activities

Penguin Books & Activity {Free Printable Pages} The main fiction book we used for our lesson is Penguin and the Cupcake. The reason why I chose this one is because it makes a stark distinction about animals that live in the Arctic and animals that live in the Antarctic. Well, the other reason is because it is a comical and cute story. The main non-fiction book we focused on is I Wonder Why Penguins Can’t Fly.

We also used our super fun mini Penguin animal replicas to pretend play with them. To make it more real, I got my pair of leg warmers and put one on each of my children…one over BOTH their legs. It was hilarious to them when they tried to walk like penguins, with almost non-existent legs.

Fiction & Non-Fiction

Penguin Books & Activity {Free Printable Pages} Here are some more fiction and non-fiction penguin books that we read for this unit. We learned so much! Take a look at all these titles! So fun! We read and read and read.

Free Multi-Level Penguin Printables

Penguin Books & Activity {Free Printable Pages} And now, to our activity! Here is a free printable that I made. It is multi-level and super fun. You get a step by step instruction page on how to draw penguins. One page comes without written instructions for non-readers and one page comes with instructions for readers. I created these because I have one of each. You print only what you nee in your home.

I loved watching my children’s faces when they exclaimed, “I can draw a penguin!” The page is big enough to practice a few times and yes, they will need to practice a few times. My youngest (3 years old) chose to dray the artist penguin first. What a shocker! Ha! Penguin Books & Activity {Free Printable Pages} The third page is where the real fun begins. Once they get the hang of drawing a penguin a few times, they can go to the third page. This is where they draw several penguins in the middle and then they choose which accessories and outfits they want on the penguins. My son did a great job. He picked the martial arts penguin because is now a green belt in Tae Kwon Do.

To wrap the unit up, we watched the documentary called March of the Penguins. My children were glued to the screen as they learned about the way they lay their eggs, how the mothers travel to get food, how the fathers stay behind with the eggs (protecting them, etc) and how they live in community. I highly recommend it.
