Here are some great resources to use during this wonderful US Presidents unit!
Pictures of US Presidents
For our lesson, I printed this set of 3-part cards TWICE in black and white on cardstock and followed the instructions on the printable file for cutting the 3-part cards correctly.
I started out with using just the cards with the Presidents’ names attached to the cards because they’re the most helpful at the beginning. We also used our miniature replicas to reinforce learning using a 3D (hands-on) prop.
My children took turns matching the portraits on the cards to the miniature President bust replicas. It was a fun activity to begin with because they learned to recognize them visually in both ways.
Next, we used the Pictures of US Presidents 3-Part Cards as intended. This helped reinforce their knowledge and with the control of error on the main card, children could work on this on their own.
The second extension for this lesson was to read the Presidents’ names AND the information below their name. I included the ordinal number in which they were presidents (1st, 2nd 3rd, etc) as well as the years in which they were in office.
The third extension for this lesson was putting the Presidents in order, following ordinal numbers (the order in which they were in office). This one was fun because we incorporated Math into our History lesson without even sweating it!
The fourth extension was to pay attention to the dates below each name. We created a timeline (marking every 10 years) to place each President 3-part card by the date in which he was in office.
