Welcome to one of our most fun games ever! Get ready to go on a space adventure with our free printable sets! You will learn so much about outer space in this Space Adventures, Games & Activities for Kids post. Take a look at all the fun and be sure to share these awesome printable sets.
First, we read books about space. We usually focus on non-fiction books, but this time, we read a mix of fiction and non-fiction. Our favorite fiction space book is this Cat in the Hat book: There’s No Place Like Space: All About Our Solar System. The rhyme and humor brought so many laughs and set us up in a great mood to play games and to have more fun.

Another fun fiction activity we did was watch the Magic School Bus Outer Space video (part of the DVD complete set). There is also the book version of it, but the video is much more fun (especially with healthy popcorn sprinkled with nutritional yeast – yum!).
And now, for the fun and games! Take a look at how to set it up and how to play this great outer space adventure game!
How to set up the outer space adventure game:
- Print out this entire set in color on cardstock. Cut out the board game and tape them together to match. Cut the cards (stage cards and move cards). Also, cut the player movers separately. These will be used for the players participating.
- Go to our post Free Astronomy Home Study {Printable Set} and print out this set of cards in color as these will be the game cards. Cut the cards individually.
- Laminate all the pieces of this set and the game cards for durability.
How to play the game:
- Read the Game Stage cards 1, 2 and 3. Start with Stage 1 as this will familiarize everyone with the facts on the game cards. Use metal rings in assorted colors to keep them together, like I did if you want.
- You can start with only a handful of cards instead of them all. That is what is so awesome about this game, you can move up in level of difficulty in two ways: one is by moving up in stages and the other is by adding more cards as the kids learn more and more facts.
- There are a couple of places where the kids can cut in the path (kind of like chutes and ladders). It is fun to take advantage of those!
- You will also notice that most spaces are light yellow, but some are blue and red. Feel free to come up with a treat, a glow-in-the-dark star or planet, an outer space sticker or moving another space whenever they land on those special colors. Have fun with it and make the game yours. 🙂
- Every time you are working a stage, be sure to have the kids go all the way through to the finish line to get the most out of every stage and maximize learning.
- Place the 10 move cards upside down after shuffling well. You may choose to print these twice or simply shuffle and reuse when you run out. There are ten cards in all.
- Once you move to Stages 2 and 3 and decide that you want to move faster, then just have the kids stay where they are if they miss an answer, instead of moving back the number of spaces that the move card suggests.
My children had a super fun time playing! They kept asking to play over and over and over! I had to tell them to stop, but this is a great game that we will have available to play on our board game day. My daughter is 4 years old and an emergent reader, so I would read the facts for her, but she would flip her move card over and move her mover.
