If you love The Montessori Method, then you will know that Maria Montessori is all about independence in the child. Well, there are some lists in books by Maria Montessori of age appropriate chores, but I haven’t seen many actually modernized and put together on a chart or list.
In this post, we will go into a Montessori chart of age appropriate chores, following the Montessori curriculum. They will inspire you to get your kids helping around the house more, but more importantly, they will be on the right path to independence and responsibility.

Age Appropriate Chores Printable
There are many jobs, works or chores that children can do at home. Our homes will be cleaner, more organized, but this will also do a lot for our children in return. It will give them a sense of belonging in their home and also help them build responsibility and independence.

Age Appropriate Chores by Montessori
We can try to sort Montessori chores by age all day long, but the truth is that chores, just like any other life skill, is an upward spiral. That is why Maria Montessori liked to have children ages 3-6 in the same room. They learn together and revisit the skills, just in increasing degrees if difficulty.
Toddlers will try it once and if they are ready, they can do it (rudimentarily as it may be), then they cycle through it again, being able to do it better every time. The best way to find age appropriate chores for children is to try it with them and see.
They cycle through that skill again (going upward in the spiral) and they find that as they get older (and with the help of more practice), they can do it in a quicker and more complex way, then actually master that skill completely.
Here is a list of tasks that children can do in the kitchen with varying degrees of help, depending on the age. Start the simpler ones at around age 2 or 2.5, depending on your child and work your way through. By the way, this list is already in the free printable at the end of this post.
You will get 3 copies of it, in different colors so you can print the one you like best or print them all and differentiate them for each child you have.
