What are Montessori 3-Part Cards?
Maria Montessori thought that these were very important to the learning and development of children.
3-part cards are a printable or handmade set that are made up of 3 parts.
This is what the cards consist of:
- A card with a picture or image or photo and nomenclature (words) at the bottom (larger card)
- A card with only a picture or image or photo only (smaller card)
- A card with nomenclature (words) only (smallest card)

How to use Montessori 3-Part Cards
Step 1: The child will take set #1 (image and words attached) and place them on the table with chairs or on a floor mat, about 6 inches apart.
I personally like to introduce a few holidays at a time until the child is familiar with them and then I add more.
Set #1 is called the control of error, by the way.
The child can work independently with these Montessori materials because they have a control of error (a way to verify on their own whether their work is correct or not).

Step 2: The child will take the images for set #2 and match the images to the control of error. They will be placed right next to those cards.
Step 3: The child will now take the nomenclature cards (in this case, the holiday names) and place them below the images to make both the control of error and set #2 look identical.
These cool activities for kids can be used in other ways, but I like to introduce a few Botany or Geography topics at a time so we can read on them and have discussions about them.
We also like hands-on activities for each.
And don’t forget that once you start using Montessori 3-Part Cards, you will collect quite the collection (trust me, they’re addictive).
It is smart to learn how to store them in an orderly fashion as well so you don’t go crazy when the cards get all mixed up.
