This lesson is such a fun one for little ones and early elementary alike! Here are books and lessons to cover a range of grades, including K-2nd.
And who doesn’t love to learn about the farm and its wonderful farm animals?
We enjoy playing with our farm animal mini replicas and make the corresponding animal noises as well as discuss what they eat, where they live and what they do at the farm.
Oh and we love to read farm animal books, too! We will share our very special list of favorites.
In our post, Make a Farm Diorama, you will be able to print two awesome sets about farm animals.
One is a set of 3-part cards with the picture of the animals and cards with the names of the animals.
You can also print a beautiful picture of a red barn.
The second set is perfect to make you own diorama, box display and pretend play theater using the characters and props in the picture below. Isn’t it awesome?!

Make a Farm Diorama (Printable Sets Included)
For this 3D diorama, all you need is:
- this printable set (below)
- a box (any size you want, but I’d recommend it being at least 18 inches long and 12 inches wide)
- green and blue paint
or paper (for sky and grass)
- scissors
- tacky glue
or double-sided tape
- one or two sheets of cardstock
- optional: white paper or paint for the clouds and yellow paper or paint for the sun
Instructions on how to make a farm diorama
- Print
the farm set on cardstock and in color.
- Cut the front of the box and the top.
- Glue or tape the blue and green paper or paint the inside of the box to resemble the sky and grass on the farm.
- Cut out the props and characters you want on your farm.
- Use the extra white cardstock to cut 1/2 inch strips.
Instructions Part 2
- Measure the height of a character or prop on the back with one of the strips and fold it 3 times. Tape it or glue it to create a triangle.
- Glue or tape one side of the triangle to the back of the character. Now it can stand up!
- Do the same with the rest of the props and characters.
- You can also glue the silos, barn and house to the back of the box, over the blue for the sky, like you see in the picture below.
- Have fun arranging everything and everyone on the diorama.
- You can glue them to have a fixed set or you can let them freestand so your children can pretend play with them and move them around.
- This project would be perfect for lower elementary children.
