It is so exciting to homeschool! We have been at it for over 7 years and, even though not all days are smooth as silk, we prefer homeschooling over any other learning method ever! Whether we are looking over fun printable superhero books inside or we study the characteristics of rocks outside, learning is always taking place! In this post, like we do every year, we share with you The Natural Homeschool Learning Spaces 2018!
You can also try this free Homeschooling Style Quiz for you to take and learn more about 7 different homeschooling methods and which ones go best with your personality and your children’s. Come and take a look!
Our Montessori at Home Learning Spaces Inside
We love having all of our windows open when we homeschool. The natural light is the best! We learn any and every subject in our homeschool area. It is the dining room, but it is mostly used for our homeschooling. It leaves us more room to get free diorama printables to make beautiful scenes! It is also easy to play with sentence starters for kids to write sentences.
But most of all, we love to use the free Montessori curriculum that we have here on the blog. Anyway, we start our day here with our pledge to the Bible (as well as to the pledge of allegiance to the American flag and Christian flag pledge). Then we do our Bible lesson.
Here, you can also see our office. It is across from the dining room. This is where we keep all of our Montessori materials and other learning curricula. We basically have everything homeschool-related well-organized by subject and we carry whatever we need into the dining room to work on it. There, we have lot of room on that big table and we have our thin removable hanging whiteboard for notes, etc.
We always keep a live plant on the table to keep nature inside with us and to have the kids caring for a living thing. We do our reading everywhere in the house. My youngest loves the big chair, particularly. My son loves to make the Science experiments on the kitchen table and we make all recipes on the kitchen counter.
Our Learning Spaces Outside
Well, as you may know, we love nature and all things natural. We go outside a lot and for long periods of time (when weather permits) because there is so much learning to be learned in nature! We love hands-on activities like The Very Hungry Caterpillar printables or flower crafts. Nature crafts and impromptu (or planned) Science lessons are the best! We’ve especially love trying a STEM erosion activity or how water travels through different types of rocks.
What gives us so much freedom to leave the house behind for a while is that we get all of our work done first inside. We use some great free printable chore charts for multiple kids to make their beds, brush their teeth and practice their piano. The chore chart also includes a section to care for the garden plants and the chickens. Yes! We are also outside to hang out with our chickens and study their unique (and funny) behavior.
Long story short, our learning spaces outside are our front yard (to read on the grass or climb or swing in the tree). We also have a basketball goal, a variety of fruit trees and a big bucket of chalk. In the backyard, we have a pool, a trampoline, a great back porch and our lovely hens. One of our favorite things is to check for fresh eggs daily! Many times, we take our work outside to learn out in nature.
