It is SO important to pay more attention to better hygiene and cleanliness habits at home with the kids. This is actually super important for keeping germs at bay.
I am super strict about my young children washing their hands often, like after playing with friends, after being outside, before eating, before bed, etc. The truth is that nothing cleans our hands better than warm water and a good soap.
What do you do when you are not able to wash our hands? The best option is to use hand sanitizer, right? Hand sanitizer can be very drying to skin because it is alcohol-based. It might actually contribute to germs burrowing into the dry skin cracks and harbor these nasty invisible monsters and make matters worse!
In this post, I’ll show you how to make your own homemade hand sanitizing spray that is moisturizing to your skin because we use essential oils for immunity.

Young Living Essential Oils for Immunity
There are so many essential oils that help support our immune systems in many ways, some internally and some externally.
We all need that, but the more natural, the better. Essential oils are safe and most smell amazing.
Let me list some of my favorite Young Living for immune support.
I am listing them in order from what I believe to be the most effective.
You can order them here.
- ImmuPower Essential Oil: Hyssop leaf oil, Mountain savory oil, Cistus oil, Camphor leaf oil, Frankincense oil, Oregano oil, Clove bud oil, Cumin seed oil and Dorado azul seed oil, carrier oil (my favorite immune supporting blend)
- Thieves Essential Oil: Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, drops of Eucalyptus Radiata and Rosemary essential oils
- Raven Essential Oil: Camphor leaf oil, Lemon peel oil, Wintergreen leaf oil, Peppermint oil and Eucalyptus radiata leaf oil (great for respiratory system)
- Purification Essential Oil ingredients: Citronella oil, Rosemary leaf oil, Lemongrass oil, Tea tree leaf oil, Lavandin oil and Myrtle oil
I personally prefer to get essential oil blends because they contain a mix of at least 5 essential oils, but you can make your own mixes.
Homemade Hand Sanitizer Recipe
Let’s make our homemade sanitizing hand spray!
You could use witch hazel, isopropyl alcohol, aloe vera gel, rubbing alcohol or even vinegar, but that is very drying to skin, especially if you are using it very often.
The key to keeping hands sanitized to boost your immune system AND really safe from germs is to also keep them moisturized.
I tried using my homemade hand sanitizing gel, but it made my hands feel sticky.
So I started to think about how to make a product at home with what I had that would both moisturize AND work at sanitizing.
It can be used as an air freshener and purifier. It is seriously the easiest to make!
We have been using it for a few weeks and I absolutely LOVE it!
I now have a lovely spray bottle at home and a smaller spray bottle in my purse.
Here is how I made the home made hand sanitizing spray with Young Living essential oils for immune system support:

- spray bottle (preferably glass) or travel-sized spray bottles
- water
- your choice of essential oils from the list above

Steps:
1- Choose your favorite immune-boosting essential oils.
I chose two wonderful essential oils: Thieves for Fall and Winter because of it’s cinnamon smell and Purification for Spring and Summer because of the citrus smell.
2- Fill up the spray bottles up to about half an inch from the very top.
Use as much as you need, but don’t fill up to the very top.
3- Depending on how many ounces the bottles are will vary the amount of drops of essential oils you will use.
I put about 6 ounces of water in the spray bottle, so I used 10 drops of the essential oil that I picked and 5 drops of vitamin E oil.
You will want to adjust your own amount of drops of essential oils, based on my amounts of ounces of water and drops.
Remember: I added 15 drops to 6 ounces of water.
If you want your hand sanitizing spray to be extra moisturizing then consider adding about 3-5 drops of lavender essential oil or frankincense essential oil to the water.
4- Shake the bottle with water and essential oil drops well and mix often.
Preferably, try to shake the bottle before each use.

Keeping Hands Clean
The best way to keep hands clean is to wash them well with warm water and soap.
Truth is, there is really no other way around it.
Whether you wash your hands often or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer a lot, your hands will inevitably dry out.
You need to moisturize them because they will be more comfortable and it keeps you from harboring germs in the cracks of your dry hands.
With this awesome homemade hand sanitizing spray with essential oils for immunity, you are doubling up on safety, effectiveness and youthful soft hands!
Try it. It is addictive and my hands are so soft!
